As fewer candidates put themselves forward for election, than there are seats, Lewes District Council has published the following
Lewes District Council has today (20th March 2023), published a Notice of Election for Town and Parish Councils within the Lewes District.
This includes an election to fill the nine seats on Wivelsfield Parish Council, the tier of local government closest to the community.
If you have ideas and enthusiasm, a few hours to spare per month and are keen to make a difference in Wivelsfield, why not consider putting yourself forward for election? There are just some simple criteria to meet and a nomination form to complete in order to stand. The greater the diversity of the people who put themselves forward, the more representative of the wider community the Council can be.
To find out more about what the role of a parish councillor involves, please visit the National Association of Local Councils website, which contains lots of information and case studies. The Electoral Commission website contains information about standing as a councillor. Or, to ask more about the specifics of being a councillor in Wivelsfield, please contact the Clerk clerk@wivelsfield.org.uk, or speak to members of the current council.
Our Annual Community Meeting will take place on Wednesday 8th March, from 6.30pm at Wivelsfield Village Hall.
This year’s primary focus is to help raise the profile of Wivelsfield based clubs and organisations, to ensure residents know about the great variety of activities available and that clubs remain well supported.
The evening will be largely informal, giving residents the chance to socialise and talk to club representatives, as well as their local Parish, District and County Councillors. We’ll also be asking for feedback about what improvements or additional facilities you’d like to see around the Parish.
Please drop in between 6.30 and 7.30pm. There will then be a very short meeting and question time from 7.30pm.
Free tea, coffee and cake available, as well as a free prize draw for those that come along.
Please see the letter below for information from the Lead Member for Transport and the Environment about the current state of our roads, and what the County Council is doing to try to improve them.
